Campaign News

The Selwyn Township candidates will be debating the issues via zoom on Thursday, September 29 beginning at 5:30. Please join and watch at the link below:

The Campaign Launch was a terrific event. The weather was spectacular and 55 people attended. Bob Helsing was the MC, Susan Twist and Sue Bell-Gastle spoke. John then spoke about the opportunities and challenges ahead for Selwyn Township and the Lakefield Ward in particular. The campaign is gaining discernable momentum and John pledged to continue to work every day to earn more support.

Here is a short video of some of my remarks:

The official campaign launch will be Thursday, September 8 at 7:00 at Isobel Morris Park in Lakefield.

Meanwhile, I am enjoying visiting friends and neighbours and meeting new people as I go door to door. Please contact me at with any questions or suggestions, or offers of support.

I was happy to see that the Peterborough Examiner featured the announcement of my campaign for Selwyn Township’s Lakefield Ward Councillor on its front page.

Click here to see the story:

Note that it lists my three priorities as

a. the delivery of quality municipal services,

b. continued improvement of infrastructure and public spaces,

c. managing growth that is fiscally responsible, environmentally sustainable, and that respects our community’s safety, character, and quality of life.

My campaign will not really begin until after Labour Day. Let’s enjoy the rest of our summer. But already I am seeing a tremendous response to my candidacy. I look forward to knocking on doors to see old friends and meet new ones to discuss the challenges and opportunities before our community. I will be candid though, more than the campaign, I am looking forward to the work on Council and representing Lakefield. Please let me know if you would like to help with my campaign.
